French Elections: The race becomes tight

Presidential elections are less than two weeks away in France and the latest poll has just shown that the race is tighter than ever. We indicated in our special analysis that it was no longer a 3 men race but now the 4 men race seems to be very close and becoming unpredictable.

The poll shows Le Pen (24%) holding a narrow lead over Macron (23%) but then two candidates lurking just behind them: Melenchon (19%) and Fillon (18,5%). It’s another poll showing Melenchon in front of Fillon, a stunning turn of events given that Fillon led the polls as recently as January. For the markets this is hardly a good news as a probability of a dreadful second round between Le Pen and Melenchon increases. It still seems to be a long shot but Melenchon is on the rise while Macron seems like he’s lost some of momentum he enjoyed in March.
